Privacy Notice

How RustLabs handles information from website visitors, business contacts, applicants, and experts.

01

Introduction

This notice explains how Rustlabs LLC, doing business as RustLabs, handles personal information from visitors to our public website, business contacts, prospective clients, subscribers, applicants to our expert network, and experts who use rustLabs.

This notice applies to rustlabs.ai, experts.rustlabs.ai, rustLabs, and related RustLabs communications and services that link to it.

02

Information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact and inquiry information, such as your name, work email, company, and the contents of your message.
  • Applicant and expert information, such as your name, email, country and U.S. state, primary language, expertise, experience, education, professional profiles, résumé and filename, availability, referral source, assessment responses, application and account status, and project-related communications.
  • Account and agreement information, such as your account email, sign-in records from our authentication provider (including Google sign-in profile basics when you choose Google), legacy password hashes (never your password), login and session records, invite records, and records showing which legal or project documents you accepted.
  • Communications information, including messages, subscription and unsubscribe status, campaign source, and email delivery, bounce, delay, or spam-complaint status.
  • Technical and usage information, such as an IP address or a derived hash, browser and device information, user agent, approximate country, referring page, pages viewed, links clicked, and performance information.
  • Referral information, such as a referral code, referring page, and an anonymous browser identifier.

Please do not include sensitive personal information in a general contact message unless we specifically request it.

03

Sources of information

We receive information directly from you, automatically from your browser or device, from people who refer you to RustLabs, from professional profiles or references you choose to provide, from clients involved in a project, and from vendors that help us operate our website and communications. For business outreach, we may also use professional or business contact information supplied by your organization or available through business-focused sources.

04

Previously sent expert invitations

Our former expert invitation feature has been retired. If you received an invitation, we received your name, email address and suggested project from the expert who asked us to send it. We retain historical invitation, attribution and suppression records, but no longer send invitations on experts' behalf.

Previously sent invitation opt-out links continue to work. We honor those opt-outs and do not add invitees to a mailing list. To ask about or request deletion of a retained record, write to privacy@rustlabs.ai.

05

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • respond to questions and evaluate business opportunities;
  • review expert applications and submitted qualifications, create accounts, deliver assessments, and identify potentially relevant projects;
  • administer contributor agreements, project assignments, communications, and payments;
  • provide, maintain, and improve our website and services;
  • understand site traffic, referrals, and performance;
  • send requested updates and relevant business communications, with an unsubscribe option where applicable;
  • protect our services, investigate abuse, and enforce terms; and
  • meet legal obligations and protect legal rights.

RustLabs does not use applicant profiles or résumés to train AI models. Materials created or submitted while performing a project are expert work product, not applicant profile data. The applicable Contributor Agreement, Project Assignment, and project instructions govern ownership, confidentiality, and permitted uses of that work product, including possible use for AI training or evaluation.

06

Cookies, referrals, and analytics

RustLabs uses first-party referral tools to understand how people reach and use the site. The rl_anon cookie assigns an anonymous browser identifier and may remain for up to 90 days. The rl_ref cookie records referral attribution and may remain for up to 30 days. When you open an expert's referral link, a random rl_visitor value in your browser's storage lets us count an open once per expert and campaign, not per verified person. The visit record stores that identifier, referral code, campaign and time, not your IP address, user agent or browser fingerprint. These identifiers support attribution, not sign-in.

We also use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. Vercel Web Analytics is designed to operate without placing cookies on a visitor's device, but Vercel may process page, browser, device, approximate location, referrer, and performance information to provide aggregated analytics.

On our public pages we also use Google Analytics, which sets Google cookies (such as _ga) to measure visits and where they came from. We send it the page address with only referral and campaign details, never personal links or tokens from our emails, and we do not use it on signed-in platform or staff pages. Google may process your IP address, browser and device information to provide this service.

Browser settings can be used to remove or block cookies. Blocking referral cookies may reduce our ability to credit a referral but will not prevent access to the public site.

07

How we disclose information

We disclose information only as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this notice, including to hosting, database, analytics, email, communications, and authentication providers (Clerk handles sign-in and account security); professional advisers; and government authorities or other parties when required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety.

Authorized RustLabs personnel may review application, profile, assessment, availability, and project information. We may provide a client with relevant expert information when reasonably needed to assess or administer a project. We seek to limit that information to what is relevant and use a contributor identifier where practical. A legal name or contact detail may be provided when operationally or legally necessary.

When you apply through a referral link, the referring expert can see your name, application-form completion, recorded process stage and confirmed hire decision to track their referral. Referral Hub does not show them your contact details, résumé, identity documents or internal review notes.

Our current core website providers include Vercel for hosting and analytics, Neon for database hosting, and Resend for transactional email. Providers process information under their own contractual and legal obligations.

We may also disclose information in connection with a financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of all or part of our business, subject to appropriate protections. RustLabs does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

If payout functionality is offered, an approved payment provider may collect identity, tax, and bank information directly. RustLabs may receive the provider's payee identifier, onboarding and verification status, payout-readiness status, and payment or transfer identifiers, amounts, and statuses. We do not intend to collect full taxpayer identification numbers, tax-form documents, government-ID images, bank-account details, or full provider compliance responses through the rustLabs experts platform.

08

Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including to maintain business records, deliver requested communications, secure our services, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Retention varies based on the type of record, our relationship with you, and applicable legal or operational requirements.

09

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10

International processing

RustLabs is based in the United States. We and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries where we or they operate. Those countries may have data-protection rules that differ from the rules where you live.

11

Your choices and privacy rights

You may unsubscribe from marketing emails by using the link in the message. You may also ask to access, correct, or delete personal information associated with you. Depending on where you live, local law may provide additional rights or exceptions.

Send a request to privacy@rustlabs.ai. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information where required or permitted by law, including for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and dispute resolution.

12

Users under 18

RustLabs services are not directed to people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a person under 18 has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and address the situation.

13

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice as our services and practices change. We will post the updated notice here, revise the “Last updated” date, and assign a new version. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice when appropriate.
